Mixdown #4 Mic Samples
Friday, August 6, 2010 at 5:57PM | As we discussed on Episode #4 of The Mixdown, different mics have very different characteristics for recording vocals. The following samples will illustrate these differences for a few mics I have in my studio.
Mic Samples
Rode NT1000 - This is the condensor microphone I use for doing The Mixdown.
Shure SM-57 - This is a dynamic mic, primarily used for recording instruments.
Shure SM-58 - This is a dynamic mic, primarily used for vocals in a live situation.
Blue Snowball - This is a USB condenser microphone.
Logitech USB Mic - This is a cheap USB microphone on a stand.
Effects
Plosives/Pop Filter - a demonstration of the effect a pop filter has on reducing 'plosives while recording.
Proximity Effect - a demonstration of how certain mics are more sensitive to low frequencies, up close.
